Okay, we got a lot to cover so let’s get right into it.
Just realized I posted the first part of my Metroid: Other M review last night, instead of saving it as a draft. Whoops.
So Nintendo wanted to make a new Metroid game to follow up the incredibly successful Metroid Prime series. They wanted to finally delve into Samus’ character, to give her a personality and a voice and make her a more complex character than the old 16-bit sidescrollers would allow. Samus has always been a feminist icon in video games, being one of the few strong, independent female characters present in the industry, so handling her character was going to be a challenge.
First, new posts will be under the name Side Quest, so keep an eye out for those. Second, the Metroid Fusion article has been cancelled, as I’ve been playing Metroid: Other M recently and it turns out my few minor complaints from Fusion were nothing compared to the trainwreck that is Other M. Instead, Other M will be getting a three-part review. Part one will cover the gameplay aspects, part two will cover the story and part three will analyze how the game is extremely sexist and damaging to Samus’ character. Part one will be out in the next few days, as I am only a couple hours from completing the game.
